How to replace a bathtub

There are several things to consider when deciding to replace your bathtub.  Replacing an old bathtub with a new bathtub is very difficult.  If the new bathtub is not the same size it may require taking out walls and flooring.  You may want your local Salt Lake City Plumbers to do the whole job for you or at least connect the pipes and tubing.  Here are the steps to replace a bathtub if you decide to do it yourself.

Step one: Turn off water

Step two: Remove old bathtub.  Disconnect all the pipes.  Your bathtub is probably surrounded by three walls you should be able to disconnect the pipes and pull the tub out.  If this does not work you may need to remove some of the wall.  If it is a small bathroom you may have to remove the sink and the toilet if you cannot lift the tub over these fixtures.

Step three: Put in the new tub.  You may need to redirect the plumbing if it is not the same as the old tub. Level the tub by putting a level in the base of the tub and add shims until bathtub is level.

Step four: Reconnect the drain and faucet pipes. Make sure everything is working before doing all the final touches.

Step five: Fix wall and floor if it was taken out. Caulk all around the bathtub.  Remember to caulk when tub is dry.

This is not an afternoon job it is very difficult and should probably be done by a professional.
